Islay Quilters - Company Message

2012 Exhibition
The Quilters would like to thank everyone who supported their 2012 exhibition specially those who loaned quilts and wall-hangings for display and also all who came to see them at Ballygrant Hall.  We were pleased to have on show so much diversity from the old heirloom quilts made to be used rather than for decoration to the modern impressionist picture wall-hangings.

There were three Challenges, one for members, one for schools and an open challenge for anyone to try.  We were delighted that the schools took up the challenge to participate and we congratulate them all.

The winners were:

The Schools Challenge - Title: “The Olympics”
1st - Keills Primary P7
2nd - Port Ellen Primary
3rd - Bowmore Primary

The other two entries from Bowmore were highly commended and the judge said it was very difficult to decide between them all.

The Members Challenge - Title : “Round the Bend!”
1st - Floating Ribbons by Rae Woodrow
2nd - Round the Bend aMazingly by Kitty Watt
3rd - Round the Bend with Fibonacci by Marian Senior

The Open Challenge - Title : “Happiness is ... ”
1st - Breakfast for the Wee One by Kitty Watt
2nd - Spending Summer in New Zealand when it's Winter in Scotland by Marian Senior

Commended - Recycling a Jacket into a Table Runner by Starla Phelps of the McLean Quilters in Virginia, USA. Starla's entry could not be placed as it did nor fit the size criteria for the competition.

All who visited the show were asked to vote for the Best Exhibit and the runaway favourite was the magnificent Islay and Jura Alphabet Quilt by Kitty Watt.

If the exhibition has inspired you to join us, you will be welcome any afternoon at the workshop in Islay House Square.
